Community Education:

Understanding drug use, and creating an inclusive community, is really difficult if we’re uncomfortable talking about drugs and harm reduction. The best way to become comfortable is to learn the facts (we don’t believe in scare tactics) and the reality of drug use in our Region.

Our team provides harm reduction focused educational workshops and presentations on a variety of topics. All presentations are focused on what’s happening in our community – and include information about the resources available here. All of our trainers have either front -line worker experience, or lived/living experience, with poverty, substance use, being unhoused, or mental health. As members of the community we are actively aware of the systemic barriers that we navigate and the harms of oppressive systems. Building capacity and knowledge is one way we can work together as a community to mitigate harm- which is harm reduction!

In addition to presenting to community groups and agencies, we’re also available to present to service users – youth, teens, and adults.

Some of Our Current Workshop Topics Include:

  • Overamping & Stimulant Use
  • Harm Reduction 101
  • HIV, HCV, Infectious Disease Prevention
  • Safer Sharps Handling
  • Overdose Response and Naloxone Administration
  • Drugs 101
  • Safer Consumption Practices
  • Safer Sex & Harm Reduction
  • Challenging Stigma
  • Compassion Fatigue & Secondary Stress
  • Working alongside People who Use Substances/Lived experience

We can customize our presentation to your specific needs and time constraints. Depending on your interest, presentations can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as a full-day event.

ESHRII: Emergency Shelter Harm Reduction Integration Initiative

The ESHRII program is funded by the Region of Waterloo, and is a partnership between Sanguen Health Centre and the Aids Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo Area (ACCKWA). It aims to reduce harms associated with substance use in emergency shelter settings, and shelter adjacent agencies by providing low barrier education for shelter staff, leadership and participants.
